Viljandi Tuled 2024

A unique light-sound-art combo shakes the city out of hibernation and lights it up!

The Story

The visual arts festival Viljandi Tuled 2024 binds together architecture, light, sound and multimedia. For three weeks, local and foreign artists will fill the urban space with a variety of events and installations, partly inspired by the Tartu 2024 creative concept “Arts of Survival”.

“Viljandi Tuled” has chosen places for its activities that have either been abandoned or are waiting for a new life – places where it is possible to rethink space and bring them more into people’s consciousness.

Viljandi, part of the UNESCO network of Creative Cities, will showcase its creativity in a new way and present itself as a place open to fresh ideas and innovation. The light installations combining art and technology on display at the festival are proof of this.

The Experience

From 8-25 February, Viljandi will shine in a whole new light with installations popping up in the town, and various art and music events taking place. The festival’s largest artwork to date will also be on display – the winning work of an international open call in 2023. There will be things to explore for the keen culture lover and the casual wanderer alike!

The festival kicks off with an opening event curated by TEMUFI.

The Impact

The festival brings Viljandi’s urban space to life with works by local and distant artists, and welcomes visitors from all over the world.
