Nine European Capitals of Culture join forces to preserve and amplify the impact of the Capitals of Culture even beyond their title year

Preparing and implementing a European Capital of Culture year requires significant effort from the region’s local governments. At the same time, purposeful collaboration on behalf of the Capital of Culture encourages cross-sectoral joint activities, enabling the achievement of goals that previously seemed impossible.

The main challenge for European Capitals of Culture after the title year is to maintain the momentum achieved and replicate successes through regional cooperation, involving both local authorities and development organisations. Our shared goal is to develop a plan for sustaining this energy and identifying the most effective approaches and mechanisms to amplify the legacy of European Capitals of Culture, supporting long-term regional development, cooperation, and joint cultural initiatives.

Led by the Tartu 2024 Foundation and with the support of the European cooperation program Interreg Europe, nine European Capitals of Culture, together with their regional organizations, are collaborating in the international project ECoC Echo.
