Summaries of the texts heard in “The Arts of Survival at the Crossroads”
***
In the beginning there was nothing, but today was already written into the code. And then there was a click and the game was on.
„Ära möödu must lähedalt“
Don’t pass me by so closely,
so I don’t get burnt by your flame.
Stay at a safe distance,
otherwise I couldn’t stand my life without you anymore.
***
Which one came first, the chicken or the egg? The meatball or the cutlet? How on earth did life on earth begin?
„Sepa kahurikuul“ ja „Võilillelaps“
The secret recipe of life contains all sorts of fantastic ingredients, that all need to be measured very precisely. But the young folk know that you only need yellow hair and a green skirt to make a dandelion.
***
Sometimes two bodies can feel an explosive need for each other. And it is a well-known truth, that some things just belong together. Like a plus and a minus. Like a fork and a knife. Like a body and the sun.
„Anna mulle end“
Give yourself to me.
Give yourself completely and in every possible sense.
Just do it and do it on point.
***
People got together and the whole land was suddenly filled. More and more of them arrived and so the city came into being. A city that has been called by a number of different names.
„Kodulaul“
The skies at home are blue. The sun is always warm. It is the best place to be, whether you feel happy or sad. And you will find your way there. I promise.
***
But eventually the selfish self came into being and a new idea was formed. What if I am the best of the best?
„Raudmees“
I am the ironman, I do not fear a thing. Everything I do is so much better than anything you do, you weasel. If you are Adam, than I am the God. For I am a fluffy kitten and a burning demon all merged into one.
***
But now suddenly packs were beginning to form and you had to be part of either one or the other. And everybody was all ears, but everybody could only hear their own song. Because it was the only one that was worthy.
„Segased lood“
Sometimes I feel as if there is a war going on between us, for we are so different. It is strange between us, because weirdly I still get you sometimes. But then again I don’t.
***
Sometimes you can find yourself speechless in front of this mysterious creature. He has the warmest and most welcoming home. He, who doesn’t want anything else from you but three drops. Three red drops. Oh, and by the way, he has horns.
„Aita mööda saata öö“
Take the ribbon from your hair. Come and lay down by my side. All I’m taking is your time. Help me make it through the night.
„Vele sõjasõit“
Who is going to war? The youngest of your brothers? Oh, dear brother, do stick to the middle, for the first ones shall be fought, the last ones slaughtered. Only the ones in the middle can safely come back home.
„Kuula“
Just listen to what is left in the silence. Listen to those simple moments. Listen, for the heart also has a voice.
***
How much longer can you be silent? Be like a dandelion on a rocky surface and grow your roots towards water and food. Do it yourself.
„Kaua sa kannatad“
How much longer can you take the laughter of the sad ones. Just take the keys and throw them into the well. Get away from it all, rise on your trusted steed. Grab your horse and leave, it is the seventh and it is ready to go.
***
In the beginning there was nothing. Nobody knew, that tomorrow will soon bloom and the mother of all crossroads is yet to be born. Tartu.
„Armastus päästab maailma“
There is someone somewhere dreaming of you tonight. There is someone somewhere tonight repeating your name. There is someone somewhere, waiting just for you.
„Mägede hääl“
I stand on top of a mountain peak, as I shout out and hear my voice echoing from the hilltops. It is a place, where I come again and again to gather my strength, to carry on.
The interlude texts were written by Laura Võigemast.
