Opening Week Programme

Welcome to Tartu and Southern Estonia!

26 January, the day of the opening ceremony of European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024, is right at our doorstep.

During the unforgettable opening week we want all our guest to get acquainted with Tartu and the picturesque landscapes of Southern Estonia. What does Annelinn look like? Where is Supilinn? How old is Tartu? Does every Southern Estonian have their own smoke sauna? Who sings the loudest, the Seto or Võro folk? And how high is the Suur Munamägi really?

You might not find all the answers on this page, but it will undoubtedly help you get started with the exploration. We have composed a programme that encompasses every aspect of culture – from sports to gastronomy, karaoke to classical music. There is something here for everybody, whether you are a solitary tinkerer or someone who enjoys a more lively environment.

We welcome you to explore Tartu 2024 in all its glory!
