Norwegian Embassy Moves to Tartu on Valentine’s Day
On February 14 at 12:00-14:00 a pop-up Norwegian Embassy will open its doors at the Tartu Town Hall Square. The Embassy will introduce the Bodø 2024 programme – the Norwegian city that also holds the title of the European Capital of Culture in 2024 together with Tartu. Traditional Norwegian waffles with brown cheese are on offer and visitors will have a chance to win awards at a quiz.
European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 main programme project Winter Bridge to Norway taking place on 14 February will culminate at 19:00 in Räpina with a concert and a festive dinner. The production hall of Hobbiton OÜ, which mostly manufactures wooden houses for Norway, will be converted into a jazz club. Norwegian pianist Espen Berg will take the stage alongside Estonian singer Maria Väli and Armenian double bass player Ara Yaralyan. Pesa Catering will establish a food bridge by combining Estonian and Norwegian cuisines into one unique experience. Talvesild Norrasse – Tartu 2024
In 2024, Tartu, Bodø in Northern Norway, and Bad Ischl in Austria will be the European Capitals of Culture. Norway’s Nordland county, including Bodø, will host events as part of the European Capital of Culture plan, similar to how Southern Estonia is participating in Tartu 2024. The vibrant Sami tradition of this region is reflected in the European Capital of Culture’s programme as well as the grand opening, which includes Sami National Day on 6 February.
Since applying for European Capitals of Culture title six years ago, Bodø 2024 and Tartu 2024 have been close friends and collaborators. In addition to visiting and exchanging experiences, Tartu 2024’s programme includes a number of collaborative Norwegian-Estonian events.
