Estonian Bass Oasis

From August 27th to 31st, an international creative festival Estonian Bass Oasis is taking place in Võru, setting the small town abuzz with music for a whole week.

Story

In the unique Bass Oasis, top musicians from Estonia and all over the world come together to make music, share their experiences and skills with fanatics of their field, and bring listening pleasure to the audience. Co-creation allows course participants to take part in masterclasses and interact with the world-class musicians, both during lessons and in their free time. The festival combines music education, exciting concerts, relaxing exercises for body and mind, and cultural experiences in South-East Estonia. A true cultural oasis!

Experience

The Bass Oasis music festival is a treat for participants of all ages and musical styles!

At the heart of the masterclass is the rhythm support – the bass guitar. The five-day masterclass of world-renowned bass virtuosos is open to musicians of all levels from Estonia and around the world. Playing with an ensemble of fantastic musicians, you will be able to improve your playing techniques and skills in a variety of styles, as well as to create new band compositions together. In this inspiring environment, everyone can choose the level of learning they want. The artistic level and programme of the Bass Oasis will be coordinated by Stuart Hamm, a world-renowned US bass guitarist and lecturer.

In the daily masterclasses, music school students in particular, but also others interested, get the opportunity to develop their bass guitar, drum and guitar skills under the guidance of world-class musicians and teachers. This will be an important boost for young musicians in their creative path and playing skills.

Concerts in town and in the cultural centre Kannel will feature top musicians, performing solo projects or in festival ensembles, as well as masterclass participants. The events will take place in local music cafés (Pubi 17, Stedingu Café, Spring Cafe) as well as in the beautiful countryside of Võru county. The gala concert of the festival will take place in the theatre hall of the Võru cultural centre Kannel.

Meditations, hikes and relaxation sessions under the guidance of local coaches will complement the exhilarating musical experiences. We will introduce the culture and nature of Estonia’s south-eastern corner and help participants find physical and mental balance.

The main organisers of the event are US music educator and active musician Stuart Hamm, SA Võru Kannel and Akantus Film OÜ.

Impact

The festival puts the small town of Võru on the world map as a cultural oasis. In cooperation with world-class musicians and local cultural practitioners and entrepreneurs, the festival will introduce Võrumaa’s natural and cultural heritage to both local and international visitors. The festival will offer new insights for experienced musicians and inspire newcomers to the music scene.
