Tartu 2024 will bring a series of concerts to this year’s Car-free Avenue
This summer, Tartu Vabaduse avenue will be car-free again. The European Capital of Culture is represented at the avenue with its special area and a self-titled concert series. Sunday activities will be provided by Southern Estonian municipalities.

The European Capital of Culture seeks to offer special experiences in special environments. Kati Tihkan, project manager of the Car-free Avenue Tartu 2024 programme, adds: “The Car-free Avenue returns and this time with a heartier programme than last summer. This year, Tartu 2024 is represented at the Car-free Avenue with its own area, where you can lounge in the hammock maze, participate in various workshops or enjoy pancakes with children on Sunday mornings. The European Capital of Culture also enriches the Car-free Avenue music programme and brings many beloved artists such as Jaan Pehk, Erki Pärnoja and Uku Suviste to Tartu.”
During the whole car-free month, visitors of the Avenue can enjoy diverse music from Estonian and foreign artists. This year, Tartu 2024 organises two music programmes – “Tartu 2024 presents” and “Avenue music” (“Puiesteemuusika”). The latter brings beloved Estonian artists to the audience in a smaller, more intimate form. Inger, Argo Vals, Jaan Pehk (with sign language interpretation) and Valter Soosalu will give unplugged style concerts. Avenue music concerts take place every Thursday.
On Saturdays, artists and DJs will perform as part of the “Tartu 2024 presents” programme. The “Tartu 2024 presents” programme will be opened on 10 July by multi-instrumentalist Erki Pärnoja accompanied by a band, followed by DJs Heidy Purga and Kersten Kõrge. Other performers include: Uku Suviste and a Big Band, guests from Lithuania and Ultradisko DJs from Finland. Visitors can also listen to Kangelased and party at the Maailmamustrid and Bashment parties.
