Tartu 2024 Thanked Volunteers With a Lively Party
On the evening of September 14, Tartu 2024 thanked volunteers for their work with a fun party at the Jardin Plantarium. This summer, over fifty volunteers contributed to the Tartu 2024 events, working as technicians, information workers, green volunteers, backstage managers, hosts and photographers.

Kuldar Leis, the CEO of Tartu 2024, stressed the importance of volunteers: “September will end in two weeks and summer, the most intense period for volunteering, is over. All 55 volunteers that participated this summer either at the Car-free avenue, the launch of the environment strategy, sTARTUp Night party or at the Tartu City Day party, were pivotal in making our events a success. It is extremely important for Tartu and Southern Estonia that we walk this path together.”
The most volunteers participated at the Car-free Avenue deposit-based dish reuse point. 44 volunteers contributed 105 shifts to the month-long city festival.
Jaan Ulst, the Head of Volunteers, highlighted the volunteers’ high sense of mission at the party: “The volunteers are ready for the European Capital of Culture. I am sincerely grateful and proud of every volunteer who supported our events this year. Our volunteer programme differs from other usual volunteering programmes in Estonia, because ours is very dynamic and demands flexibility, commitment and fast reaction from all parties.”
At the party, participants enjoyed food, exchanged experiences and set plans for the future. The volunteers also competed in a quiz. The evening was accompanied by music by DJ Kaspu, known to the volunteers as the Tartu 2024 producer Kaspar Aug, who organised many of the Tartu 2024 summer events.
