On June 29 at 19.00, a gala concert on Vabaduse puiestee will serve as the official opening of the Tartu 2024 summer concert series, as well as the start of the Car-Free Avenue, which will last for more than a month. It is a show of solidarity with Ukraine and its people, who are defending themselves against Russia’s all-out invasion. The performance is also a celebration of all who have supported and aided Ukraine during this trying period.

The Kharkiv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre’s opera chorus will perform. The Pärnu City Orchestra will play with vocalist Alika, opera singers Mirjam Mesak (Bavarian State Opera), Elena Bražnik, Janne Ševčenko, and Reigo Tamm (Estonian National Opera) and conductor Aleksandr Bražnik (Vanemuise Theatre).

Classic opera and operetta works will be performed. Everyone can attend the gala concert for free. The concert will be broadcast live on ETV.

“The summer concert series is versatile and appeals to audiences of all ages,” said Tartu 2024’s Head of Communication and Marketing Division Marili Vihmann. In addition to the Ukrainians, Reket, Ivo Linna, Gerli Padar, Bedwetters and Daniel Levi will take the stage at concerts curated by Tartu 2024 over the course of five weeks.
