Info
Would you like to explore the impact of glacier loss on the future? Join us at the workshop taking place at the Ice Age Centre, led by actor and renowned scientist - marine geologist Martin Liira.
In the workshop, we will examine aspects related to the complete disappearance of glaciers: what are the consequences for nature globally and locally, what problems may arise in people’s daily lives, and how our culture should change to cope with these challenges?
Using popular science tools and theatre improvisation techniques, we will create imaginative environments to better understand the consequences of glacier loss. At the beginning of the workshop, a brief lecture on climate change and polar melting will be provided. Additionally, Martin Liira will share his experiences from his life in the Svalbard, and his captivating stories and photos will give participants an insight into the environment of that region.
Participants will create a short video clip during the workshop, capturing the inspiration and activities.
Schedule:
Gathering at the Ice Age Centre foyer
Introduction and lecture by Martin Liira in the conference hall

This event is part of the international art and science initiative ‘Look into my Ice’.
‘Look into my Ice’ is a romantic initiative to enhance our emotions towards the coldest entity on Earth: Ice. The transeuropean project is part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 and offers new ways to approach the disastrous speed of the disappearance of polar and glacial ice as a result of the human made climate crisis.
