Info
On Saturday, 7 September, starting at 13.00, the Tartu Art House will host the French artist Louise Gügi who will lead a workshop around the making of a wearable costume embodying the figure of an endemic woodpecker. Anyone interested in contributing to this project is welcome. You can join at a time to suit you between 13.00 - 17.00.
In the ecological context of the exhibition “Missing”, the different parts of the costume will be made of recycling and found materials such as newsprint paper or cardboard for the head or the legs, whereas the wings or the beak will be made of textile.
Louise Gügi holds a master’s degree in arts from the Fine Arts School of Paris (Ecole des Beaux-arts) and has exhibited her works in several solo and collective exhibitions. She masters different types of mediums such as drawing, ceramics, and textiles and likes to share those skills with the public during participative workshops.
The workshops will find their roots in different scientific and literary sources such as Baltic mythology, the cycles of migrating birds in Europe, the figure of the wood pecker, and the processions of popular sculptures in European villages.
Hopefully, by the end of the workshop, the costume will be complete and the bird will show off its wonderful handmade feathers during the performance on 14 September.
The workshop is free of charge.
