Info

One of the most captivating endeavors of this year's festival is the major event taking place on the evening of April 30th at the Estonian National Museum, where the mysterious aura of Walpurgis Night is woven into a thoroughly staged experience.

You will encounter six new electronic works performed by the Ensemble of the Estonian Electronic Music Society, followed by the unique soundscapes of Sami Klemola’s modular synthesizer, and a surrealistic mousikē-performance titled Time Porridge Brought to a Boil co-created by Repoo Ensemble and Andrus Kallastu. The grand scale action is unified by Al Paldrok’s and the group Non Grata’s performance art. This exciting late-night event is spatially dynamic, encompassing areas filled with story-laden exhibitions as well as expanses of the bridge area.

Estonian Music Days is the most important continuously held contemporary music festival in Estonia. Over the decades it has become undeniably the most significant platform for Estonian composers, new musical creations, and artistic growth. What makes the festival unique is the abundance of premieres of Estonian composers’ newly commissioned works.

In 2024 Tartu is the cultural capital of Europe. Therefore the festival Estonian Music Days will join forces with three neighboring countries to become a larger event that unites Baltic and Estonian Music Days. In addition to recognized Estonian ensembles and soloists, musicians from Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland are also expected.

The Festival Baltic and Estonian Music Days is a part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 main programme.
