Viljandi Organ Festival is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 additional programme.
On the surface, the zither and the organ are two very different instruments – on the one hand, the organ as the king of instruments with its rich baggage of possibilities, repertoire and powerful sound, on the other hand, the zither with its quiet voice and sensitive sound. On closer inspection, however, they have a lot in common – long sound, airiness, sound variability and “cosmicness”. The concert looks at the points of contact between the zither and the organ, for which works by Urmas Sisask, Mirjam Tally, Antonio Vivaldi and J.S. Bach offer a lots of opportunities. The concert does not lack solos of both instruments and joint free improvisations.
