From November 14th to 17th, the international folklore festival Tartu Folk will take place in Tartu. The three-day event features a varied programme at festival centers in Tartu and Luunja. The final concert will be held under the bridge at the Estonian National Museum.
As European Capital of Culture 2024, Tartu will host the folklore music community BUL Bodø from Bodø 2024, the other European Capital of Culture. Alongside Norwegian string music, the Finnish dance group Motora will show lively Karelian traditions, the Baltic countries are represented by Tarkški, one of Latvia’s best-known youth folklore groups. Saaremaa’s heritage will be highlighted by the Sörvemaa sörmitsejad & Ammuker, and Folklore club Maatasa will bring Southern Estonian music and dances to the stage. The concert, structured as a webcast, will feature entertaining clips about the headlining acts and the unique aspects of their homes, while also exploring the question “What or who is the spirit of Tartu?”. The event will be hosted by Tuule Pihlap (Folklore club Maatasa) and Kaarel Pogga (Vanemuine Theatre).
Tartu Folk is event of the additional program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024.
