ONE MILD EVENING IN AUGUST ON THE ESTONIAN-HOLLAND BRIDGE! In the year of European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024, Räpina will be connected to Europe through music, food and stories. The Tegelmann/Ornstein duo is building a musical bridge at the cultural evening "Summer Bridge to Holland" of the "Three Bridges over the Border" series.
Estonian mezzo-soprano Kadri Tegelmann and Dutch clarinetist and saxophonist Maarten Ornstein both enjoy cross-genre creations, which is confirmed by, for example, the album “Laula!” released in Holland in 2021 in collaboration with veteran musician Mike Fentross. It features Estonian folk songs in a baroque setting with jazz influences. At this concert, the musical mother tongues of Estonia and the Netherlands are interwoven with the global jazz vibe.
The food bridge is built by a three-course dinner combining the flavours of Estonia and Holland, which starts with a herring sponge cake, continues with spicy meatballs Bitterballen and ends with an apple cake with hemp seeds. The menu can also be ordered in a vegetarian version; pre-inform us at [email protected], attaching a copy of the purchased ticket.
The bridge of stories connects the historical and cultural relations of the Netherlands and Estonia. Among other things, we can find out in which Dutch city the Estonian Bar has been located and when it is appropriate to speak about Holland and when about the Netherlands.
The series of events “Three times across the border” are characterized by the fact that one-night jazz clubs open their doors in buildings that are not designed for cultural events. This time the venue is in the building for practices of School of Horticulture, inspired by the fact that the Netherlands is famous in the world and the Räpina School of Horticulture in Estonia for its floriculture. The floor of the building is uneven, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
The project “Three Bridges Across the Border” is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 main program. The activities of the European capital of culture are supported by A. Le Coq, Delfi Meedia, Topauto and Lux Express.
