SOFF 2024: Life Is Not A Competition But I’m Winning (Germany)

Sports and Olympic Film Festival SOFF 2024 SOFF stands for the Sports and Olympic Films Festival, which is the first sports film festival in Estonia. It is initiated by the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum located in Tartu and is taking place for the fourth time during the year when Tartu is the European Capital of Culture in 2024.

If the victors write history, where does that leave those who were never allowed to be part of the game?

A collective of queer athletes enters the Olympic Stadium in Athens and sets out to honour those who were excluded from standing on the winners’ podium. They meet Amanda Reiter, a trans* marathon runner who must struggle with the prejudices of sports organisers, and Annet Negesa, an 800m runner who was urged by the international sports federations to undergo hormone-altering surgery. Together they create a radical poetic utopia far from the rigid gender rules found in competitive sports.

The film duration is 1 hour and 19 minutes.

All films at the SOFF 2024 Sports and Olympic Film Festival will be screened with Estonian and English subtitles at Elektriteater (Jakobi 1) in Tartu and are FREE of charge.

Accessibility Information: The festival is partially accessible for visitors with mobility impairments – the cinema hall on the 3rd floor of Elektriteater is only accessible by stairs.
