Info
This project focuses on the cultural meaning of endangerment and brings to public attention aspects of extinction through artistic means.
Its value resides in the importance and urgency of addressing the ongoing ecological crisis and the complementary scope of its events. It consists of two art exhibitions destined for a wide audience, their preparative activities and cultural program. It brings together partners from the cultural and natural fields, with events that blur the boundaries between art and science to offer an individual grasp of environmental decline.
The exhibition is supported by the French Institute of Estonia. Both exhibitions are part of the project „Unfit remains“, which belongs to the European Capital on Culture Tartu 2024 main programme and is connected to the research projects “Meanings of endangered species in culture: ecology, semiotic modelling, and reception” and “Unfit remains: A research-creation approach to species endangerment”. The first of the research projects is supported by the Estonian Research Council, and the second by the Estonian Ministry of Culture.
