International wood sculpture and landscape art symposium POKUJU!, which will take place on 12.08.2024 – 17.08.2024 in Võru, Põlva and Pokumaa.
The aim of the International Symposium on Landscape Art and Wood Sculpture is to create something wonderful to complement the places to visit in the region, which values nature, wood, stone and other natural materials as precious to create works of art.
The first symposium took place in Pokumaa in June 2021 and received very good feedback from artists from eight countries, and it is still gaining recognition and will continue until the natural end of the works in nature. The works are created with the natural environment in mind.
Through this, our goal is to expand the common ground between art and nature. Everything created remains in front of the viewers until the end of the natural life of the works, through which you can observe over time what happens to the human creation in nature and how to create so that nature remains a winner hand in hand with art. Local cultural carriers and their work are taken as a basis. Created in Pokumaa, it follows Edgar Valter’s handwriting and development goals. In the counties (our previous good partners Antsla and Kanep vald) there are their own patterns of behavior or basic themes on which to base your nature art.
The creation could evoke a friendly and warm feeling of being in nature in the viewer, and thus encourage thinking about the relationship between our culture and nature. It is hoped that one will be able to see further and deeper when professional sculptors and landscape artists guide the viewers to “see”.
The works remain for the visitors of the area to enjoy later and make sense of the natural environment.
Next to professional artists, we welcome amateurs to create their own works.
We announce a separate two-day competition for families and grandparents with grandchildren. To support their hobby, we offer training programs in advance by the artists participating in the symposium.
The range of topics includes general composition study, special techniques and other things that would help the participants of the study program to offer more artistically mature works in the future and value wood as a wonderful creation created by nature.
If you want to grab a bite or need a place to stay, see what the Tartu 2024 hospitality network offers in the area: https://tartu2024.ee/recommendations-voru
