Info
A new swimming spot will be opened on the Pedeli island in Valga town center.
During the month of September, construction began on urban furniture for the Pedeli Peninsula swimming area, designed by young Estonian architects Mia Martina Peil, Katariina Mustasaar, Eneli Kleemann, Lill Volmer, Marie Anette Veesaar, Anna Riin Velner, and Saskia Epp Lõhmus, who together form a studio collective.
During their residency at VARES, they have continued research on construction waste, a theme from their previous works, focusing on applying reuse and recycling methods in architecture. They are using materials found in Valga to build urban furniture for the Valga Pedeli Peninsula swimming area. In October, a changing cabin, bench, and staircase leading into the water will be completed on the shore. They invited bricklayers from Valga Vocational Training Center to help, and together they built a uniquely shaped brick wall for swimmers.
The swimming area will be fully completed in the spring when the final landscaping work is done, and sand is added to make access to the water more pleasant. The opening of the renovated swimming area will take place on October 19th at 2:00 PM, and all interested parties are welcome to attend.
