The lecture will discuss caricatures that were published in newspapers and magazines at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in the territory of modern Estonia. We are interested in images where animals are protagonists. Estonian caricature will be presented in the context of the history of satirical journalism in the Baltic region. The end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries in the Russian Empire was characterized by increased censorship and forced Russification of the peoples. State restrictions determined the language of humorous statements.

Lecture is in Russian. Participation with a museum ticket.
