Info
We present the legacy of Ernst Hiis, the grand old man of Estonian piano making, and the story of piano making in Estonia. Renowned pianists from around the world and a symphony orchestra perform at the concert, the centrepiece of which is the premiere of a work dedicated to the Estonian piano.
“Dedicated to the Estonian Piano” is a tribute to the Estonian piano, music, and the father of the Estonian piano industry, Erns Hiis, born in Luunja. The piano concert will feature the world premiere of Mihkel Kerem’s eponymous piano concerto, along with marvelous piano music by Shostakovich, Grieg, and others.
The concert will showcase the best of Estonian pianists. Thus, you can experience how Mihkel Poll perceives the value of the Estonian piano through Kerem’s innovative composition, Kadri-Ann Sumera delves into the depths of Lepo Sumera soul-stirring piano pieces, or Age Juurikas mesmerizes with the rhythms of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
The artistic director of the concert is Lilyan Kaiv. The concert will feature performances by the Maarjamaa Philharmonics along with the soloists.
Project Dedicated to the Estonian Piano” is a part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 main programme.
