Info
Architours are architecture- and art-themed tours organised by the Estonian Museum of Architecture.
The last Architour within the framework of European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 will take place on September 21st. During the tour, we will explore the monumental art hidden throughout the city of Tartu. The journey will involve cycling around the cultural capital, discovering hidden gems scattered across the entire city.
Tartu boasts a rich collection of monumental art in public spaces, ranging from the time of the First Estonian Republic, through the Soviet era, to numerous pieces from the post-independence period. During the Architour, participants will become acquainted with examples of monumental works from various historical periods.
The tour will include visits to well-known pieces such as Aleksander Vardi’s mural in the Estonian Students’ Society building, and cyclists will pass by famous monuments. At the same time, the tour will also explore more hidden objects, such as the mosaic panel at the Aparaaditehas and a space-themed mural. The tour will culminate in the Ropka district with a very special figurative composition created by Lembit Saarts.
The tour will be guided by Kadri Asmer, an art historian, lecturer in University of Tartu, and resident of Tartu.
The group can accommodate up to 30 participants. Participants are required to bring their own bicycles!
Participation in the tour is free of charge.
Registration is available through Piletilevi.
The participants will receive information about the meeting location via email.
Architours are part of the main program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024. The activities of the European Capital of Culture are supported by A. Le Coq, Delfi, Topauto, and Lux Express.
