6th Viljandi Night Dance Festival

May 4, starting at 8:30 p.m., is the best time to don your striped skirts and mulgi coats, put on national shoes or rubber boots (depending on the weather) and set foot on Viljandi Lauluväljak (Viljandi Singing Grounds) to dance the night dance together. We welcome all dance enthusiasts to come and see the performing dance groups and maybe even learn some traditional Estonian dances with them!

6th Viljand Night Dance Festival brings folk dance right into the crowd! Our festival, in a slightly unusual format celebrates our roots through folk dances and introduces the tradition of Estonian dance festivals with the help of choreographed repertoire. All dance enthusiasts have the opportunity to experience unity and the feeling of dancing together in night-time Viljandi. Traditional dances are taught by folk dancers and dance teachers from Viljandi County, the dance night includes polkas, waltzes and reinlanders. Besides learning to dance simple folk dances, the audience has the opportunity to admire the beautiful dance patterns drawn on the Singing Grounds by performing folk dance groups. In addition to dance groups from the city and county of Viljandi, dancers from Pärnu County, Tartu, Tallinn and elsewhere are coming to the festival. We welcome all dance enthusiasts to join us in dancing traditional dances in Viljandi at night!
