Intergenerational Repair Day

Skillful hands of young and old give new life to items and skills alike

Story

Whether you are young or old, a beginner in upcycling or an experienced master, Räpina invites everyone who is passionate about environmental protection and repair. We demonstrate that anything can be fixed – from washing machines to glasses and from necklaces to candles!

Experience

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 11.00 to 16.00, Räpina will delight environmental and upcycling enthusiasts with workshops to hone their maintenance and repair skills in mending leather goods and jewellery, remaking candles (in cooperation with a student company), bicycle maintenance, sharpening hand tools, repairing household appliances, adjusting clothing and patching eyeglass frames.

No prior registration is required for the workshops. The inclusive format of the event encourages spontaneous encounters between masters and repair enthusiasts. Visitors can purchase necessary consumables on-site and immediately repair the item they brought. For more time-consuming projects, arrangements can be made on-site for future collaboration with the masters. The workshops will be accompanied by interviews with various masters, conducted by the event host, introducing their techniques and inspiring the preservation and reuse of items created for our joy and benefit.

The event brings together people from different generations with shared values and skilled hands. Fresh ideas from students add excitement, while middle-aged and older masters revive repair techniques that are in danger of being forgotten. To encourage learning from each other and networking, the workshops will be held in a large tent. The event will take place at the parking lot located at Kooli 19, which is easily visible and accessible to guests, even to those who happen to walk by by chance.

Adults of different generations who share a desire to preserve and upcycle items made for our joy and benefit are invited to participate. The event is suitable for those for whom repairing things has become a lifestyle as well as for beginners who are still developing the necessary skills.

Impact

The Repair Day promotes environmental awareness and intergenerational cooperation. This event, bringing together young and experienced repair masters, is a new format in Räpina Parish – one that may well become a lasting tradition!
