Czech and Estonian surrealist surrealism enters a dialogue to focus on the artistic narrative in the context of Eastern and Central Europe.

The exhibition Hidden Worlds Expanding presents Outsider Art mainly created in Eastern Europe, bringing for the first time together in one exhibition exceptional works hitherto hidden from the broader public in so many countries. The exhibition displays more than 200 works from the collections of historical and contemporary Outsider Art from 10 countries by a total of 59 artists.

The exhibition series “Hide and Seek” uses vacant buildings by inviting street artists to hide works in different rooms for visitors to find. Some of the artists work on the site for several days, while others come for just a few hours, which means that you can find both major works and small surprises when you explore the three floors of the building.

The artwork combining Nordic folklore, 19th-century mythology and modern lighting design illuminates the walls of Tartu Cathedral every night. The work is inspired by a beautiful story where the lovers Dawn and Dusk meet only once a year on the summer solstice when day and night become one.

You can also see a home photo lab built in a small city home bathroom. The sub-exhibition is made based on the recollections of native Tartu residents or people who have had connections to Tartu, whether for a shorter or longer period.
