Join the Tartu 2024 Bike Ride on July 1
On July 1, at 18.00, the Tartu 2024 Bike Ride will start at the foot of the Kalevipoeg War of Independence Monument. At 18.50, bikers will finish the ride at Vabaduse puiestee before the opening concert of Car-free Avenue “Tartu 2024 presents: Justament and Stefan”. The concert will be broadcast on ETV.
Organisers ask cyclists to remember three simple rules:
1. Move with traffic, stay in your lane and follow the signals of the safety cyclists in reflective vests.
2. The Bike Ride is a calm ride. Keep calm, stay in the column and enjoy the process.
3. Maintaining a common pace is important. Because of this, safety cyclists will ride in front of the column, do not rush past them.
The Bike Ride path runs along the Tartu port railway and traffic is stopped at the intersection of Võru, Tähe and Turu streets for up to 15 minutes to ensure safety. The column crosses the junction in one stop between 18.10 and 18.40.
European Capital of Culture
Tartu 2024, Tiigi Society House and the city of Tartu will organise concerts, dance evenings, a food market and many other events at the Car-free Avenue from July 1 to August 14. Rita Ray (16.07), Horoskoop and Heidy Tamme (23.07), Raul Ojamaa (29.07) and Ewert and the Two Dragons (14.08) will perform as part of the “Tartu 2024 Presents” programme.
The 50th anniversary concert of the ensemble KukerPillid will take place during the
Klaaspärlimäng festival
(10.07). The first weekend of August will bring the Tartu Food and Wine Festival to the Car-free Avenue, featuring Jüri Pootsmann (5.08) and Alika Milova (6.08).
The aim of the Car-free Avenue is to join the city centre and the Emajõgi river into a unified whole, to separate groups of road users for safe travel and to liven up the summer city centre. Cooperation is established with local entrepreneurs to help create a pleasant living and working environment on the main streets of Tartu.
Exciting events take place throughout the summer. It is worth keeping an eye on the programme: kultuuriaken.tartu.ee/en, on the Facebook event: https://fb.me/e/1LA5IOeT2 and on the event’s website: www.tartu.ee/autovabadus.
