Info

VII International Streetorgan Summer Days will take place in Tartu from August 2 - 4, 2024 in cooperation with the Tartu Riding School and the city of Tartu. Streetorganplayers are expected to visit from eight countries, including also from places as far away as Mexico and Japan. The concerts take place mainly in the center of Tartu, but also in Tammelinn and the surrounding counties.

The 7th International Streetorgan Summer Days in Tartu bring together streetorgan players from all over Europe and further afield to jointly give concerts in the open air, in churches, organize concert-seminars and club nights. The program is diverse, street folklore is offered in different places and for target groups. The aim is to test new exciting performance venues in the urban area and in nearby counties. The activities take place in beautiful, culturally or historically exciting places that are attractive. The events are free for the audience and conveniently accessible, so that even those with special needs can participate. There is a separate children’s concert for children, in which clowns from Estonia and other countries participate. At club events, we offer those interested an opportunity to create new cultural and social contacts and update existing ones. The instruments with handmade carvings, paintings and accessories, as well as the imaginative clothing of the players, are a cultural-historical phenomenon and sight in their own right. You can learn about Streetorgan both during concerts and concert-seminars. Recently, the number of windpipes in Estonia has increased, and it is known that there are currently 6-7 instruments. More crank relays have survived in Scandinavia and Europe, where there is also a longer playing tradition. Therefore, in addition to Estonia, the Summer Days have performers from European and Scandinavian countries. The continuity of the generations is ensured by the younger generation of crank relay players. Streetorgan Summer Days 2024 is a part of the side programme of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024, one of the goals of which is to strengthen regional identity. The repertoire includes streetorgan variants of the works of Estonian composers, and the guests of the festival will bring musical delights from the composers of their countries and adaptations of classical pieces. The organizer is the Tartu Riding School in cooperation with the city of Tartu.
