Festival of Lights 2024 “Arrival”

The Festival of Lights will be taking from 30th of September til 6th of October for the 10th year running and it will explore the key elements of space travel, Touchdown – aviation technology in Tõrvandi, Weightlessness in space - Nõo (Festival of lights, technology, performing arts), Beyond (the Horizon) - Tõravere (Observatory, science, education, ESERO).

Opening performance of luminism “Landing” will take place in the Airport of Tartu at the beginning of the week. Visitors will also have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with aviation technology and observe an air show.
Throughout the week of the festival groups of schoolchildren will be welcomed in Tõravere, an extended site of Observatory of Tartu. They will be presented with opportunity to take part in ESERO education workshops which will focus on preparation period of space mission. There will be presentations from space technology companies to further the education.
Midweek will be marked by youth performances. Visitors from Denmark (Gymnastikhøjskolen i Ollerup) and Estonian own young performers will deliver multiple site-specific presentations.
The Grand Finale will take place in Nõo, where Külliki Roosna and Kenneth Flak are looking to intertwine art, science and technology in their dance performance Kohtumine/Arrival.
