XIV Mulgi Conference “Tillike kultuur suuren ilman”

On May 9, 2024, the XIV Mulgi Conference "Tillike kultuur suuren ilman" will bring together members of the Mulgi community and other similar communities, as well as enthusiasts of Mulgi culture.

The conference held at Tõrva Gymnasium is expecting a higher number of young participants than usual. In the fall of 2023, the fourth youth event, “Mulgi Youth Day,” took place at four Mulgimaa Youth Centers, along with a joint seminar for Mulgimaa youth leaders. Input gathered from these events was used in setting the discussion focuses for the spring conference day.

The conference will focus on the vitality of Mulgi culture and language, the unification and collaborative efforts of Mulgi communities in three Mulgimaa municipalities, and the utilization of Mulgi identity and heritage in everyday life. Lectures, discussions, and debates will take place during the event. As a result of the day, the Mulgi community will have a better understanding of the expectations and needs of local youth.

Musical interludes will be provided by Margus Põldsepp along with the young musicians from the Karksi-Nuia Music School.

The conference is organized by the Mulgi Culture Institute in collaboration with Mulgimaa municipalities and the University of Tartu’s Ethics Center as part of the Tartu World University project. Tartu World University is a part of the main program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024, and within this framework, community academies are organized, focusing on value discussions and presenting community theory and research on various topics of interest to communities.
