"Did you hear the news?" — a casual conversation starter, or perhaps, "I read from somewhere that...". These phrases start discussions, yet we often find ourselves skimming only the headlines, relying on our intelligence and prior knowledge to construct the narrative behind the title. Isn't it fascinating how it transforms into a realm of pure fantasy?

“Did You Hear the News?” goes beyond the ordinary. It presents a collection of visual articles, that are akin to unravelling a daily riddle that we unconsciously engage in. This phenomenon, embedded in our routine, sparks curiosity. The exhibition unfolds with 16 photos, each functioning as a visual article, accompanied by authentic headlines sourced from reputable news sites such as the BBC and TechRadar.
This project was part of the BredaPhoto 2018: To Infinity and Beyond. BredaPhoto is the largest international photography festival in the Benelux.
Johanna Adojaan was born in 1996 in Tartu, Estonia. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree cum laude in fine art photography from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. In 2019 she completed a study exchange at the Academy of Fine Arts in Guangzhou, China. Adojaan’s recent projects explore biosemiotics, symbolic thinking and the notion of luck.
