Info

Reconnecting with the present moment and exploring climate anxieties through creative writing and photo walks: Join us on a transformative journey of self-expression and collaborative exploration against the backdrop of nature's tranquility. The workshop aims to empower participants to navigate the complex emotions surrounding climate change.

Part 1: Introduction + Creative Writing Exercise:
Meeting the group and starting to explore personal experiences / responses to climate anxiety and our individual connection with nature. We’ll delve into personal reflections, exploring our emotions – fear, hope, determination – surrounding climate change. Through a gentle and individually chosen way of writing (letter form, poems, lyrical writing..), we will unfold a present in the very now that heightens our thoughts and deeper Self, that is going to be our guide for the photography walk.

Part 2: Photowalk:
Inspired by our written reflections, we’ll embark on a captivating photowalk by the water and amidst the calming presence of nature around us.
Guided by basic techniques, capture visual metaphors that resonate with our collective as well as personal journey.

Part 3: Printing a selection of photographs on a photocopier/printer:
In a safe and nurturing environment, we will share our photographs and writing with the group, fostering connections and witnessing the diverse perspectives that emerge. Each of us will have the opportunity to gain feedback on each other’s visual responses from the photography outdoor walk. We will curate in togetherness a selection of writing and images that will be part of the physical space.

After the workshop, there is going to be a small and safe section at Tartu Art House that invites visitors to leave a note too and put it on the wall. The wider aim is to feel less lonely with the thoughts we are having as individuals and to create a collective collage in the exhibition space over time.

This event is part of the international art and science initiative ‘Look into my Ice’.
‘Look into my Ice’ is a romantic initiative to enhance our emotions towards the coldest entity on Earth: Ice. The transeuropean project is part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 and offers new ways to approach the disastrous speed of the disappearance of polar and glacial ice as a result of the human made climate crisis.
