Viljandi Organ Festival is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 additional programme.
The musicians’ programme is based on the desire to play very good music, while avoiding hits that are already too well-known. They have chosen works that will speak to the musicians and hope to broaden the listener’s ear. As the title suggests, we will be able to listen to works that have long since become classics, as well as some “new classics”. Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, Tõnu Kõrvits’s Hymn to the Blue Sky and Galina Grigoreva’s Prayer will be performed by saxophone and organ. Astor Piazzolla’s “Cafe, Nightclub” will grab you with its exciting rhythm and, of course, we’ll also hear works by organ music giant Johann Sebastian Bach.
