Info

The V South-Eastern Estonian Dance Festival will take place in May 2024 in Põlva Intsikurmu and is entitled "MINU SÜDAMES". Our first anniversary summarizes the theme of the party of the four meetings ("Life in the middle of the village", "My people", "Listen" and "Sanna kitmine").

In 2012, Andre Laine started the first Southeastern Estonian dance party, where the party’s repertoire included only dances created by him. It was the first time in Estonia that the party consisted of dances by one author. Defying the opinions of many, in 2015 the II South-East Estonian dance party was held, where once again Andre’s new creations were danced. At the III party of 2018, Andre decided to include the dances of other young dance teacher’s in the program. By trusting, listening and giving an opportunity to dance teachers who come from Southeast Estonia.
He wanted to give the organization and main direction of the next party to some young and active dance teacher from Põlvamaa, who would like to try the role of the chief organizer. Heleri Kängsepp took over the organization of the 2022 party, also creating the South-Eastern Estonian Folk Dance Leaders Union.

Between the first and the fifth party there are magical 12 years, or one cycle, the circle of life. Numerologically, 12 represents magical symbolism, represents the perfection of traditions, integrity and also cosmic order.

V The main director and organizer of the South-Eastern Estonian dance party is Andre Laine, who summarizes one cycle. Andre’s biggest wish is for the parties to continue, the process to be attractive to the audience and pleasantly enjoyable for the participants. The party could give the joy of being together, listening to understanding and skill, noticing and valuing Estonian music. Here in the southeast corner, we are the trendsetters of today’s folk dance, keeping the basic steps and patterns of the dance through a visual prop image.

As Jaak Joala sang, you live in my heart, we also live in anticipation of our new party.

The Southeast Estonian dance party will take place on 25-26 May 2024. As part of European Capital of Culture in 2024 Tartu and the jubilee, there will be two performances.

First performance on 25.05.2024 at 19:00
Second performance on 26.05.2024 at 2:00 p.m
