In summer 2024 Miksteater will stage an original play “The Train Robbery”, based on a true story and written in Võro language, the language of South-East Estonia. Featuring numerous original songs, it is a story about the struggle for freedom after World War II, and about a young man who desperately needs to prove himself. Based on true events: on December 11, 1948 a group of partisans, the Forest Brothers, led by Johannes Heeska hijacked a high-security passenger train near Sõmerpalu station in Võrumaa, South-East Estonia, from which they robbed 152,000 Roubles of agricultural tax money. The whole operation was carried out by just seven partisans, who were able to leave the impression that it was in fact a huge gang. There were no casualties.
Written by Jan Rahman. Original idea and lyrics by Aapo Ilves, music by Erki Meister. Directed by Kristo Toots, costumes and stage design by Maarja Meeru (Vanemuine), chorepgraphy by Andre Laine, sound and lighting by Martin Meelandi.
