Tartu linna luuletänav

On June 7, 2024, Rüütli Street will become Tartu linna luuletänav.

The goal of the students of Hugo Treffner Gymnasium on this day is to get Tartu residents and visitors of the city to write poetry and to expand the possibilities of people’s creative self-expression in the urban space. People of all ages are welcome to participate.

Anyone who happens to move on June 7, 2024 between 12:00 and 14:00 in the center of Tartu on Küüni or Rüütli street from Tartu kaubamaja to the Hugo Treffner Gymnasium can create a surreal poem. There are two ways to do this.

First, the material for the poem can be obtained from seven so-called inspiration tents, where students guide those who are interested. In these tents, people can choose the sentences and phrases that are prepared in advance and printed on paper and combine them into a poem. Moving from tent to tent, a person gets enough material to create a poem.

Another way of obtaining material is to collect the so-called living language. To do this, you can walk down the street or sit in one of the catering establishments in the same area and store the material yourself. The two ways can also be combined.

A special room will be set up in Hugo Treffner Gymnasium for entering poems. There is also an online environment for submitting poems.
The jury selects the best poems, these poems will be read on the main staircase of Hugo Treffner Gymnasium on the same evening.

The Poetry Street of the city of Tartu is part of the main program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024.
