On Saturday, June 22, at 12 p.m., a fishing competition with kuritsa will be held in Uue-Saaluse village, Rõuge municipality, Võrumaa. The event takes place by the Kavadi lake in the Uue-Saaluse manor park for the 4th time. We welcome teams of 4 to participate with their own gears. Spectators will also have fun at the event, because there will be a concert, buffet and workshops.

To participate, we ask teams of 4 to register by e-mail to [email protected] until June 19. Please let us know your team’s name, contact person and phone number. For additional information call 56230944. Participation fee 40€/per team to be paid in cash on site. 20 teams can participate. Bring your own fishing gear.

Program

11:00-12:00 gathering of teams, registration,
12:00 opening Uno Kangro and Anu Taul
12:15 the teams move to the fishing spots
12:30-13:30 fishing with gear “Kuurits”
12.30-13.15 the band Kõhukesed will perform
13:30-16:00 Weighing of the caught catch and determining the winners
13.15- 16:00 activities for spectators
• workshop of the Environmental Board about fishing
• Open Ulgumaa Buffet
• Family Randma sweet cafe
• Tasting and sale of wines from Uue-Saaluse Wine Farm
The winner will receive a traveling trophy, plus lots of awesome prizes from our sponsors.

Kuurits is an archaic fishing tool that used to be part of the normal life of villagers in Võrumaa and Eastern Estonia. Kuurits is a strainer that is dragged by human power along the bottom of a body of water. 4 people take part in the roach fishing.
Kavadi Kuurits 2024 is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 additional program.
