At this concert we can listen to the works of Rudolf Tobias performed by three choirs: the mixed choir “Laudate Dominum” of the Tallinn Dome Cathedral, the chamber choir of the St. Jacob’s congregation in Viimsi and the chamber choir of the Central Pori congregations in Finland. Rudolf Tobias (1873-1918) is one of the great figures of estonian romantic music, the first estonian to acquire a special academic musical education as both a composer and an organist. He wrote Estonia’s first instrumental compositions, including an oratorio (The Sending of Jonah), a number of choral songs, organ music and other genres. His music draws on classical models (Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, etc.), but also has some impressionistic elements. The concert will include choral works such as “Do You not see”, “Like a deer”, “The Repentance”, “Daughters of Jerusalem”, “Liberi Dei” and others. The accompaniment is played on the organ by Kersti Petermann, who will also perform four chorale preludes on the organ.
