Vision book

Arts of Survival is the vision book of Tartu 2024 European Capital of Culture.

Many ECoCs publish a detailed programme catalogue before the title year. We could have done the same but these days, the most up-to-the-minute information about the events is easily found online. A programme book compiled with the best intentions could easily become dated, turning out to be no more than a souvenir at the expense of the environment.

Our book is different

Even though it also includes examples of characteristic projects, its core consists of the values underlying the Tartu 2024 programme. It’s what was and is in our hearts in Tartu and Southern Estonia while thinking of Arts of Survival and the future of the world in the 21st century. We are sure that these issues will not become dated anytime soon but will spark new debates, helping to create and make sense of a more caring, nature-friendly and responsible culture and urban space.

Even though Tartu 2024 takes place in globally difficult times, our programme is still also full of joy and hope.

We believe that the most crucial task of a European Capital of Culture is to give people strength and courage to dream about the future again, to change themselves and the world with the choices made in the arts and everyday life. We invite all of you to Tartu and Southern Estonia to join us in this in 2024!
