Main Supporters

  • The well-known Tartu symbol, A. Le Coq, is Estonia’s oldest beer producer and has the broadest product portfolio in the beverage industry in the Baltic Sea region. In collaboration with A. Le Coq, special beer and lemonade will be introduced to celebrate the European Capital of Culture.
  • Delfi Meedia brings together the flagship newspapers and magazines of the Estonian media landscape and is the media partner of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024.

European Union

Tartu 2024 places significant emphasis on the fact that the European Capital of Culture is an initiative of the European Union. The European Union flag is prominently displayed in our office and integrated into our branding materials. We are proud to be a flagship event of European culture.

City of Tartu

Between 2017 and 2019, the Tartu 2024 candidacy team operated within the structure of the Tartu City Government’s Department of Culture. This initiative was launched by the Tartu City Government based on a decision of the Tartu City Council. The Tartu 2024 Foundation was established in December 2019 by a decision of the Tartu City Council.

Estonian Ministry of Culture

The competition to find the European Capital of Culture from Estonia was conducted by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Estonian Association of Cities. The cities that made it to the final round were visited by a commission in August 2019, and their decision was announced during a press conference at the Ministry of Culture on August 28th. Tartu together with Southern Estonia won the title to be the European Capital of Culture.

Southern Estonia municipalities

On 29 April, 2019, the leaders of Põlva County, Tartu County, Valga County, Võru County, Viljandi, and Tartu signed a cooperation agreement in support of Tartu’s candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2024. Following the victory in the competition, the Tartu 2024 Foundation was established, which has been responsible for maintaining and expanding cooperation among the Southern Estonian municipalities related to the European Capital of Culture since 2019.
